Clothing is a fundamental expression of the self's relationship to the self. Prior to clothing the relationship is of the self to the other. Clothing filters the self and returns it to the body as an intrinsic image. The body image is there first for the body and for the self-awareness in that body, and not for the eye, neither its own (in front of the mirror) nor the other's (in the world). The self experiences itself not as a picture outside itself but as a moral power, as an inner quality. The tone of self-experience is linked to the tactile movement of the clothing: how the suit makes me feel and be felt. Or more precisely what propositions it makes to me so that I feel myself.

I'm taking an Entomology class this semester. The teacher said we would have a day where he brings in edible insects and all interested students can dig in. Exciting! And he gave us bug nets on the first day to catch bugs for our collection. I already love this class. We looked at close up pictures of different ants' faces for three hours and it was fascinating.

I love Berlin. I could see myself living there some day. I love the youthfulness and vibrancy of the city. Art is everywhere! We all enjoyed the street art immensely, including these two pieces. Don't those palm trees look familiar?

Yesterday I bought tickets to see Broken Social Scene! I love that everything is walking distance in my new neighborhood, it is almost as though they are playing in my back yard.

Tomorrow is my first day of school. I'm excited

I am jet lagged from berlin, awake at 6 am, having a totally reflective moment.

I love these dresses from Comme des Garçons. The dresses from this all white collection nodded to the history of fashion, looking at historical silhouettes with an almost childlike sense of fascination and innocence. Rei Kawakubo seems to attempt to act in a subversive manner towards the history of fashion, if she even references it at all, which is why I like these outside-of-the-norm looks. They symbolize an acceptance of the history of fashion. Victor and Rolf did a similar all white collection after their controversial "Black Hole" collection.

This summer has been an affirmation for me.

On the ride back from Chromeo, Hansi told me that he wears the same hat to every concert he attends, and then writes the name of the band on the hat. That got me thinking that I need to list the concerts I have attended to date in some way. So here it is. Numbers in Parenthesis indicate the number of times I have seen the band play.

I'm a dangerous girl in Michael Levine's.

First I saw this bird fabric that I knew I had to buy. I have a thing for birds on fabric, and I knew this would make a perfect sequel to the first bird dress.

Then I saw this car fabric. How could I resist this! I'll probably make a bag out of this. It's a decent weight canvas, so I think it will be perfect.
I'm still working on that coat. I finally chose the buttons! I decided to use mismatched mother of pearl buttons. Here they are on top of a piece of the coat fabric (a medium weight boiled wool).

I picked a simple pattern because I'm not too experienced at making coats. I hope it turns out nice!

Summer time

I started working on a gorgeous green coat from a vintage pattern I bought, but the recent heatwave and a visit from my boyfriend put a halt to that project. It's difficult to find the motivation to work on a wool coat when the heat is in the 80s and a boy and the beach are calling your name. I'll work on it this weekend and post some pictures.

I just love this ad campaign. It creeped me out when I first saw it, but I've come around to loving it. I've now realized that it gave me the creeps at first because it is so much like something I would do. I would totally knit a body suit and lounge around the house in it, and I can't deny that the thought has crossed my mind! I should really get started on that...
